Long before the storm arrived there were reports across internet forums of people changing plans, taking leaves, calling in sick and all sorts of things to make sure they were in tahoe after or during this storm cycle. Others were canceling plans to be here in case things really got out of hand. It's now Sunday the 24th, and it has snowed every day since the cycle began on the 17th, and it looks like it will continue through Tuesday, with a brief break. That's good news cause I can keep updating this thread until the cycle stops.
What makes this storm so perfect is the consistency of the snow from start to now and the lack of hassles to the general public. Sure there were a lot of wind holds on Mon-Wed, but if you knew how to get to the right place, the skiing was fantastic. South Lake Tahoe itself didn't get too much snow and the roads were not too bad except for Sunday night, which is expected given the crowds and the Sunday snow storm. Anyway, on to the pics
Tuesday, after getting turned around at Kirkwood due to high winds, we hit Waterhouse. The snow was fantastic, but it was somewhat crowded, with more cars parked facing town than I have ever seen before. Lots of folks are going to Kirkwood prepared to hit the bc instead, if necessary.
Wednesday we looked all over for something safe, steep and easy access. We found it near Emerald Bay
Thursday we hit Kirkwood, knowing that Friday was the day everyone was talking about. Thursday was too cold and too snowy for many pictures.
Skier Seanhav hits Jim's.
Friday we hit Kirkwood and it was every bit as busy as we thought. But it was also very very good. Here an unknown skier does a front flip in lower Eagle Bowl
Saturday, after a little goading from a friend, I hit a peak near Echo Summit for some of the deepest turns in recent memory.
The next day at first light, i went back to that same special place.
With that friend and his best friend
Having noticed a sledding hill along the trail that day and the previous, I took one of my daughters back for a little extra-curricular activity.
