Hi all,
First thanks for taking the time to read this. I will be in lake tahoe January 21- 29th. I'm just wondering what I should Expect when I come there.
I've only been a skiier for 5 years, But I consider my self to be in the advanced level. Anyway, I've never been in the West Coast so I'm wondering what type of conditions I should Expect.
Normally, In january I'm used to ICE and lots of it, so I'm wondering that the snow is like in late january when I come up. Also hows the terrain in comparison to moutains like Killington and Tremblant?
I will staying in Kings Beach so I"ll be skiing in that area, But I expect to take a trip to Kirkwood also.
Also, what events are there in late january? just wondering if there's anything special going on when im up there.
I don't care much about the casino's but i'm sure I'll go once or twice, but i rather find out more information on Skiing and the mountains. I could care less about the "fansy" stuff.
Is the snow condition nice in january?
Is it crowded in late January?
How do lake tahoe moutains compare to the East?
How are the Glades in Tahoe?
any information would be appriciated, I've been reading alot about your area and I'm very jelous of thos of you who live there.
thanks
~EAS~

Hello,
January is an excellent time of the year. Usually good snow conditions, but the crowds haven't arrived yet.
YOU WILL LOVE IT!
First off. Ice is very rare anywhere out west, and when we do have icy conditions, they still tend to pale compared to those in the east. The mountains are much bigger than those of the east, more of an alpine feel to them. We do have soime eastern style mountains.
Big mountains- Squaw, Alpine, Kirkwood
Smaller eastern style- Diamond Peak, Northstar, Heavenly (huge, but it doesn't have that alpine feel).
We have some of the best glades in the country, specifically at Heavenly, Northstar, and Sierra at Tahoe.
Not too much in the way of events that time of year but we'll have more info as the date gets closer.

by the way great site, lots of information on it!! you should advertise the forum on search sites though (google and yahoo), it was a pain trying to find it.
P.S ) I tend to bring a few feet of snow every time i go on a ski trip so Expect a storm late January.
5 years and I'm hitting 100% success on being on ski trips and having it DUMP
thanks again.
