There is one resort in Tahoe that was planned from the get go with families in mind. That resort is Northstar. From endless corduroy to bungee trampolines you'll find something here for every member of your tribe. In the summer you can choose from a beautiful golf course or some of Tahoe's best lift accessed mountain biking. Northstar has as much in the way of slopeside lodging as any Tahoe resort and there is much more on the way as The Village at Northstar is under construction now. The slopes at Northstar ar a bit on the mellow side. In fact, locals refer to it as Flatstar for a good reason. The black runs here (often groomed) would amount to blues at many other resorts. There are tons of trees here though, and unlike Sierra at Tahoe (the resorts South Shore sister), they don't get too much pressure after a storm. There is some accessible out of bounds terrain but when we visited it was closed because, according to patrol, the conditions weren't that good. Safety issues I can understand but to close it based on quality is ludicrous, in my ever so humble opinion. Based on skiing aspects similar to what was closed we were being kept off the best terrain and conditions on the mountain. Seems like the emphasis is on mowing the whole mountain and I must say they did an excellent job with that. There certainly are great views to be had including Lake Tahoe as well as great vistas of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.
