Mayhem Cove
Mayhem Cove provides some of
Tahoe's more difficult
sport routes, especially with the closure of Cave Rock. It also
provided excellent granite, afternoon shade, and spectacular views, all
with a short approach. The routes mostly face SE so the sun is gone by
1:00-2:00 except for the longest of summer days. This also means the
snow will be gone before other areas of Eagle Canyon like Eagle Lake Cliffs.
Some of the belay zones especially along the left wall are well shaded
by trees and may hold snow a little later than the right wall. Most if
not all routes are well bolted and have chains at the top and 12
quickdraws should get you through all of the climbs.

Directions
- From South Lake Tahoe head north on 89 from the Y. Park at
the Eagle
Falls parking area. Parking is $5 inside the parking area or free on
the roadside parking areas. All of the Eagle Canyon areas start here.
Instead of heading up the main trail follow a trail past the bathrooms
to some picnic tables. Here you will see Smoke Rock. Head uphill to the
left of the rock and you will very shortly reach an old road
cut. Follow this to the right and after a little while you will see a
climber's trail heading up to the left. Follow this to Mayhem Cove
