Fun Stuff for Kids
With all the options for grown-ups in Lake Tahoe, sometimes
it seems that's all there is. That's just not true. There are numerous
activities for kids, you just have to scratch the surface a bit
to find them. In the winter time, all the major ski
resorts offer numerous activities for kids, ranging from tubing
hills to dog sledding. That doesn't mean you always have to drop
a big dime for the kids. There are also lots of free sledding
hills scattered around the basin. A bit more expensive but unforgettable experience is to take the kids for a dog sled ride. Another wintry option is ice
skating, which can be found at seven different spots split evenly
between the North and South Shore.
Summer brings the beautiful weather and
the kids love the beaches, but there's
plenty more. There are tons of easy to moderate bike trails throughout
Tahoe, with the exception being the lake's east shore. There are
also numerous parks and playgrounds
scattered in the basin, usually with great views nearby. If you
need to hone up on your short game you can take the little ones
to one of our three miniature golf courses for a round filled with
fun and windmills. Or check out our hiking
page for a list of hikes kids can enjoy too. Another option
is to take them to one of our area rivers. They would be happy to
throw rocks in the water all day but to spice things up you can
take them rafting on the Truckee, or tubing on the Upper Truckee.
Taylor Creek provides an educational
experience as well as big time fun at the Stream
Profile Chamber.
While we like to emphasize the healthy activities in Lake Tahoe
we know that to each a little rain must fall. On those rainy days
you should consider the Fun Center at Harrah's for their arcade
and playroom for toddlers. Below are a list of theaters within the basin.
Heavenly Village Cinemas -
(530) 544-1110
Hollywood Theaters at the Horizon Casino
Incline Village Cinema -
(530) 546-5951
Cobblestone Cinema - Tahoe City (530) 546-5951
One of our favorite activities is a trip to Gardnerville to the Carson Valley Swim Center. They feature two regulation size pools (one outdoors), a kid's pool with activities, a warm pool especially suited hor the handicapped (kids love it too), high and low dives, and two180 foot water park style enclosed slides (must be 48 inches). There is also a multi purpose room with excersize equipment and free weights. Check out their site because their hours are quirky and can change with special events.
Looking to enjoy some time away from the kids? Let them enjoy it too. Lake Tahoe Kids Camp offers activity packed day and evening sessions daily for kids aged 6-13. Activities can include hiking, swimming, bowling, movies, arcades, and more.
