Summer Side

Woodfords
Woodfords is a climbing area
that is growing rapidly in terms of popularity as well as size. As a
whole it represents about as much climbing as all of Donner Summit, but
with the opportunity for first ascents and legitimate adventures. There
are a number of ways to break it up, but the most popular is to
separate into the summer side and the winter side. The summer side lies
on the south side of Hwy 88/89 and faces predominantly north. The
winter side sits on the north side of the road and faces predominantly
south. In general, the approaches are shorter on the summer side, with
a few exceptions. The summer side includes Storm Trooper Buttress,
Strangler Cliff, Wood Cutters Wall, One of These Days Wall,
The Tiers, High Energy Wall, The Steeple, Lost Cabin Crag, and more.
The winter side includes Suicide Falls, Deadwood Wall, The Crystal
Wall, Bandit Crag, Golden Eagle Buttress, The Fortress, White Wall,
Orange Wall, Cracker Cliffs, The Apron, and more.
