Wright's Lake Cliffs
Unlike other climbing areas
around Tahoe, the name here refers more to where you park than where
you climb. Having said that, it's an awesome place to climb, especially
for the more talented among us. The climbs are generally in the more
difficult range, with the exceptions being in the more difficult to get
to range. The climbing is a mix of sport and trad, although most climbs
are top-ropable with a longish scramble around either side of the
cliffs. You may want a belay to set some of the top ropes and some
require two ropes or an 80m. There are a number of bolted lines to the
left of the Main Wall as well as to the right of the Black Beauty Wall.

Directions
- Coming from South Lake Tahoe head west on Hwy 50. 4 miles
east of
Strawberry you will turn right onto Wrights Lake Road. If you're
coming from the west, Wright's Lake Road is approximately 5 miles past
Kyburz on the left. Follow Wright's Lake Road to the lake and then turn
right. Follow this road to the Grouse Lakes Trailhead. Take Grouse
Lakes Trail and follow until you get to an intersection with the Loop
trail. Veer right. Shortly after you will see a lighter trail heading
left, take it. This trail will take you to the swimming holes near the
cliffs, which will become plainly visible once you're on the huge
slabs. Total approach time is around 30 minutes.
