Each year beginning in late June to early July, the
wildflowers in the Tahoe Basin begin a show which rivals anything
we humans can do on July 4th. The area from Carson Pass westward,
including Kirkwood, is center stage in nature's ritual. In late
July, when the bloom is at it's peak, Kirkwood hosts their annual
Wildflower Festival. The morning features guided informative hikes
through seemingly endless fields . The afternoon brings the festival
with live music, a fantastic selection of beers and wines, and local
artisans and restaurants displaying their craft.
Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 is the date. Noon is the time. The beverages will be provided by Amador and El Dorado County's finest wineries along with many microbrews. As always, there will be wildflower hikes (9 am and noon) and plenty for the little ones (face painting, bouncy tent, ice cream, etc.)
