The Golf Club at Genoa Lakes
Hole
by hole analysis
Genoa
Lakes is now made up of two championship golf courses, the Lakes Course
and the Resort Course. The Resort Course is what used to be the Sierra
Nevada Golf Ranch.
The Lakes Course is a classic test of golf. The greens are lightning
fast, nearly unreadable, have lots of slope, but play very true. The
fairways are immaculate, and now their clubhouse is something to behold
too. The course has always been the centerpiece. It has consistently
been ranked as one of the top four in Nevada by Golf Digest Magazine,
and is a regular host to U.S. Open Qualifying events (whence they make
the greens even more slippery). The Peter Jacobsen/John Harbottle III
course winds through the Carson Valley with several chances to hit the
ball into the Carson River. The setting is so natural I have only
played once without seeing deer and have watched friends nearly unable
to hit because they were being chased out by birds protecting their
young. After your round head up the Sports Bar where your first draft
is the price of your score in pennies. Our foursome was quite happy
with that, even though our round cost over $4.00. While you enjoy your
draft you can discuss why you didn't follow the advice given by their
Uplinks GPS system installed in all the carts.
