About Lake Tahoe - Hiking - Showers Lake
Carson to Echo on the PCT and TRT
This is a lovely hike. By itself, it's not too terribly long, but the shuttle is a long one. We start by dropping a car off at Echo Summit in the snow park at the top. It is located just after the top of the pass on the right side of the road. Then we head back to the trailhead on the North side of Carson Pass. Here we hop on the PCT. Right away we were happy it was Fall because that limits the amount of flies clinging to the horse manure (mountain bikes don't poop, they should be allowed instead!!). The trail climbs aout 400 vertical feet over the first several miles until you reach a pass with a small lake at the top. Here you head down into Meiss Meadow and the junction of the Tahoe Rim Trail. At the junction you will also find the Meiss Backcountry Hut. The trail winds through the meaddows for a while before heading into the hills leading up to Showers Lake. Showers Lake, the highlight of the hike, is stunningly beautiful, especially in the fall.
